Tips for a healthier lifestyle

Tips for a healthier lifestyle

We all know that living a healthier lifestyle is a goal for most of us but it can be difficult to know where to start. Our lives are so full on and it’s so easy to just forget to look after your body and mind. But, with a bit of patience and perseverance even the smallest changes can make a huge difference to your day to day life. I have put together a few simple tips that can hopefully help you feel better, have more energy and improve your overall well-being.

  • Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water is essential for good health. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and more if you are active. Go for a cute reusable cup or bottle - it’ll motivate you to use it more.
  • Exercise regularly: Regular exercise is important for maintaining good health. Try to aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day, whether you like to do some yoga at home, hit the gym or even go for a walk. I prefer going for a walk and also took on pilates lately and I am really enjoying that as well. If you’re local to the Cardiff area then I could not recommend Seren Yoga enough. They have amazing classes at affordable prices. You can book your class here https://serenyogacardiff.co.uk/
  • Get enough sleep: Sleep is essential for good health, and most adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Try to establish a regular sleep routine and create a relaxing sleep environment. I normally stop using my phone or ipad an hour before bed. I light a candle and I read a book to allow my mind to start unwinding and relax after a busy day. When it comes to relaxing scents I normally light one of my handmade, wood wick candles as the wood crackle relaxes me straight away. • Manage stress: Stress can take a toll on our physical and mental health. Try to find healthy ways to manage stress, such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises. Or just 10 minutes in your garden with no electronics to distract you can also do the trick. Just close your eyes and breathe!
  • Limit alcohol and tobacco use: Excessive alcohol and tobacco use can have negative impacts on our health. Try to limit your alcohol consumption and avoid tobacco use altogether. You can, of course, still enjoy that party or a glass of wine after a hard day at work. You know your limits, just give your body and mind a break once in a while.
  • Remember to switch off and take some time for yourself. Take a bubble bath, light a candle, read  a book or binge on your favorite series. There’s no shame in having a sofa day every once in a while. A “Lord of the Rings” marathon always does the trick for me. Extended edition of course!
  • Declutter and tidy up your home. For me, having a tidy home and less clutter around me does wonders for my mental health. I used to think having lots of decorations was the thing but since I have embraced a more minimalistic approach I feel much better and enjoy my space much more. Less stuff to dust and clean as well!
Living a healthier lifestyle may require some effort and commitment, but the benefits are so worth it. By making small changes to your diet, exercise routine, sleep habits, and stress management, you can improve your overall health and well-being. Remember to be patient and consistent, and celebrate your successes along the way!
